DJI Mini 4 Pro: Overview
The DJI Mini 4 Pro occupies a rare position in the drone market: it weighs under 249 grams — keeping it below registration thresholds in many countries — while packing features that used to be reserved for much heavier, more expensive drones. After extensive flying in a range of conditions, here's what we found.
Design & Build Quality
The Mini 4 Pro is compact, foldable, and well-constructed. The arms fold out quickly and lock firmly. The gimbal is protected by a cover in transit, and the overall plastic build feels sturdy without being heavy. At 249g, it's genuinely pocketable with the right jacket.
The three-directional obstacle avoidance sensors (forward, backward, downward) are subtly integrated into the body. The upgraded version features omnidirectional sensing — a significant leap over the Mini 3 Pro's more limited coverage.
Camera Performance
The 1/1.3-inch CMOS sensor is the headline spec here. This is a notably larger sensor than what you typically find in the sub-250g class, which translates to:
- Better dynamic range — especially noticeable in high-contrast scenes like sunrises and sunsets.
- Improved low-light performance — usable footage in dimmer conditions where smaller sensors struggle.
- 4K/60fps recording — smooth, cinema-quality motion at full resolution.
- Vertical shooting mode — ideal for social media content creators shooting for Reels or TikTok.
D-Log M color profile is supported, giving videographers more flexibility in post-production color grading. The 3-axis stabilization keeps footage smooth across all flight speeds.
Flight Performance & Intelligent Modes
In calm conditions, the Mini 4 Pro is rock-steady — hovering with impressive precision. In moderate wind it holds its own, though in strong gusts you'll notice some drift, as expected at this weight class.
Intelligent flight modes are a genuine highlight:
- ActiveTrack 360°: Subject tracking has improved meaningfully over previous generations.
- QuickShots: Dronie, Helix, Rocket, Boomerang, Circle, and Asteroid — one-tap cinematic moves.
- Hyperlapse: Free, Circle, Course Lock, and Waypoint modes.
- Master Shots: Automated sequence that captures multiple shots and assembles a short film.
Battery Life
DJI rates the Mini 4 Pro at up to 34 minutes of flight time. In real-world use — with obstacle avoidance active, some intelligent modes engaged, and moderate wind — expect around 26–30 minutes. That's solid for this class of drone. The Intelligent Flight Battery Plus extends this to a rated 45 minutes, though it does add weight.
Controller Options
The Mini 4 Pro is available with three controller options:
- DJI RC-N2: Standard stick controller, requires your phone as a screen.
- DJI RC 2: Built-in 5.5-inch screen, no phone needed — the recommended choice.
- DJI RC Pro 2: High-brightness screen for outdoor use, for professional users.
What We Like

What Could Be Better
- Wind resistance could be stronger at this weight
- The RC 2 controller pushes the total cost up noticeably

Verdict
The DJI Mini 4 Pro is the most capable sub-250g drone available today. If regulatory simplicity and portability are priorities — and they are for most flyers — this is the drone to buy. The camera quality, intelligent features, and obstacle avoidance system punch well above their weight class.
